Fight the Fight

My friend and Lee’s Summit High School classmate Jonas Borchert is fighting a battle against Ewing’s Sarcoma, an aggressive cancer of the soft tissue.  In 2011, Jonas was diagnosed, and he has since endured extensive treatments including chemotherapy and proton therapy.

This video was made while Jonas was in remission and shows his inspiring drive to fight his cancer.

Recently, the tumor has returned and spread to other parts of his body.  From the beginning of his battle against cancer, Jonas has lived out his motto “Fight the Fight.” The lyrics and music of this song are written in support of Jonas in his battle

I want to thank Mrs. Holly Dahn, who invited me to write a song inspired by Jonas’ journey for her Pleasant Lea Middle School Black & Gold choir.  Mrs. Dahn and her choir are rehearsing “Fight the Fight” and will perform it this fall.  Thank you, Mrs. Dahn!

After completing the music and lyrics for “Fight the Fight” and giving them to Mrs. Dahn, I decided to record the song as a solo.  All proceeds from online sales will be used to assist the Borchert family in paying medical bills.

The cover art shows the bracelet worn by Jonas' community of supporters.

Purchasing the MP3 from CDBaby will help the Borchert family the most:

Fight the Fight:

Verse 1:

Look behind you and see all the dangers

You’ve already overcome

There were struggles and there were hardships

But you surmounted every one.

Verse 2:

Look beside you and see all the people

Who join you on this winding road

They will always be there to help you

Cheer you on and share your load

When the road is rough, and the journey is long

When the going is tough, remember this song

Chorus:

You can fight the fight

Always with courage

Keep the faith

You’ll make it through

The strength you need to win this battle

Is already inside of you,

Already inside of you.

Verse 3:

Look around you and see all the reasons

You keep fighting every day

Magic moments and memories not made yet

Bring you hope along your way

Verse 4:

Look inside you, remember your spirit

Will never sacrifice your goal

No affliction, hardship or challenge

Will ever conquer your soul.

When the road is rough and the journey is long

When the going is tough, remember this song

Chorus:

You can fight the fight

Always with courage

Keep the faith

You’ll make it through

The strength you need to win this battle

Is already inside of you,

Already inside of you.

Look behind you,

Look beside you,

Look around you,

Look inside you.

You can fight the fight

Always with courage

Keep the faith

You’ll make it through

The strength you need to win this battle

Is already inside of you.

It’s already inside of you.

Be Still

Be Still is dedicated to my Aunt Amy, who was diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia in the fall of 2011.  I wrote this song for her while she was hospitalized and receiving chemotherapy.  Later, when she suffered from a brain hemorrhage and was hospitalized in the ICU, I sang this song to her in her hospital room.  That moment was healing and powerful for me, my aunt, and our family in the hospital room.  Be Still is a song of healing, and I pray that the music and lyrics will soothe many who are hurting or ill.

Be Still - Be Still - Single

Verse 1:

May angels surround you

May their voices soothe your soul

May heaven protect you

Lift you up and make you whole

May you always find comfort

In God who’s by your side

May his truth and his light be your guide

Refrain:

Be still and know that God is with you

Find comfort in his holy name

Be still and feel his arms around you

Be still and know that He is God

Verse 2:

As you conquer each mountain

May your soul grow stronger still

May no hardship have power

O’er the strength of your will

As you go on your journey

Remember all the love

Pouring down on your spirit from above

Refrain
