Fight the Fight - Video!

To celebrate the upcoming choral debut of "Fight the Fight", we have released a video of the song.  This song is dedicated to my classmate Jonas Borchert who is fighting Ewing's sarcoma.  The video shows how much his inner strength and support from his family, friends and community have helped Jonas "Fight the Fight"!

On stage with Amy Grant

I was blessed to attend the Amy Grant Tennessee weekend event October 18-20th, 2013 with my family.  Her music has been an inspiration to all of us.  The event began with the opportunity to meet Amy and join her for a photo.  When I introduced myself, I shared that I am a singer and songwriter and gave her a copy of "Jericho".  She was very warm and encouraging.  The next day she hosted the group of 500+ people at her farm for a day of music and fun.  She mingled with everyone.  When she saw me in her barn, she asked me "do you want to sing?".   I was amazed and said "yes."  When I asked her for advice, she said "do it because you love it", "find people who love it as much as you do", "learn from people who are better than you" and "when a door opens, walk through it."

Later Saturday evening she hosted a "songwriters in the round" session.  Amy and a group of her songwriter friends, including Beth Nielsen Chapman (she wrote Faith Hill's "This Kiss"), shared the stories behind some of their songs.  Then Amy began to describe our conversation earlier and asked if I was still in the audience.  She then invited me to come on stage and share one of my songs.  I chose to share the story behind "Fight the Fight" and my plans to dedicate all proceeds from the iTunes sales to help my classmate Jonas Borchert with his medical expenses.

After I sang, Amy encouraged the crowd to purchase the song on iTunes and then made a very generous offer.  Thank you Amy Grant for opening a door and for giving me a chance to help my friend.  Video.

New Single - Fight the Fight

My new single, "Fight the Fight" is now available!

This is a fund-raiser for Jonas Borchert, a classmate and friend of mine who is fighting Ewing's Sarcoma.  Please purchase the single and help spread the word!

Soon I will be sharing news about the upcoming performance of the song by the Pleasant Lea Middle School Black and Gold choir.

Fight the Fight (2)

My friend and Lee’s Summit High School classmate Jonas Borchert is fighting a battle against Ewing’s Sarcoma, an aggressive cancer of the soft tissue.  In 2011, Jonas was diagnosed, and he has since endured extensive treatments including chemotherapy and proton therapy.

This video was made while Jonas was in remission and shows his inspiring drive to fight his cancer.

Recently, the tumor has returned and spread to other parts of his body.  From the beginning of his battle against cancer, Jonas has lived out his motto “Fight the Fight.” The lyrics and music of this song are written in support of Jonas in his battle

I want to thank Mrs. Holly Dahn, who invited me to write a song inspired by Jonas’ journey for her Pleasant Lea Middle School Black & Gold choir.  Mrs. Dahn and her choir are rehearsing “Fight the Fight” and will perform it this fall.  Thank you, Mrs. Dahn!

After completing the music and lyrics for “Fight the Fight” and giving them to Mrs. Dahn, I decided to record the song as a solo.  All proceeds from online sales will be used to assist the Borchert family in paying medical bills.

The cover art shows the bracelet worn by Jonas' community of supporters.

Purchasing the MP3 from CDBaby will help the Borchert family the most:

Fight the Fight:

Verse 1:

Look behind you and see all the dangers

You’ve already overcome

There were struggles and there were hardships

But you surmounted every one.

Verse 2:

Look beside you and see all the people

Who join you on this winding road

They will always be there to help you

Cheer you on and share your load

When the road is rough, and the journey is long

When the going is tough, remember this song

Chorus:

You can fight the fight

Always with courage

Keep the faith

You’ll make it through

The strength you need to win this battle

Is already inside of you,

Already inside of you.

Verse 3:

Look around you and see all the reasons

You keep fighting every day

Magic moments and memories not made yet

Bring you hope along your way

Verse 4:

Look inside you, remember your spirit

Will never sacrifice your goal

No affliction, hardship or challenge

Will ever conquer your soul.

When the road is rough and the journey is long

When the going is tough, remember this song

Chorus:

You can fight the fight

Always with courage

Keep the faith

You’ll make it through

The strength you need to win this battle

Is already inside of you,

Already inside of you.

Look behind you,

Look beside you,

Look around you,

Look inside you.

You can fight the fight

Always with courage

Keep the faith

You’ll make it through

The strength you need to win this battle

Is already inside of you.

It’s already inside of you.

Compositions

In addition to performing and recording my original songs, I enjoy composing choral music.

My first choral piece was "Eclogue de Noel" (2012).  This was performed by the Lee's Summit Youth Chorale and then by the Lee's Summit Christian Church (LSCC) Choir.  Here is a video of the Lee's Summit Christian Church chancel choir singing Eclogue de Noel during Advent of 2012.

My second choral composition was "Dawn Over Calvary" (2013).  The LSCC chancel choir sang this on Maundy Thursday of 2013.  The audio of their performance accompanies this interpretative video

I plan to publish the scores for both pieces.
